Care Fees ~ How Much Does Care Cost?
There are a number of factors that affect the price of care, making it difficult to give any useful guidance.  As a starting point we would suggest that around £650 a week (2011) would buy reasonable quality residential care, however the following factors will each have an impact.

Location

To a degree care costs follow house prices so if you live in an expensive part of the country, you can expect to pay more for your care.  In some areas the costs will be significantly lower.

Care Type

You would expect to pay more for EMI or nursing care as specialist staff and facilities are required.

Facilities

A home with large grounds, nice surroundings, good food and a lively entertainment programme will cost more than somewhere with limited facilities.

Room

Even within the same home there can be a difference of several hundred pounds a week between rooms.  A nice view, a room with patio doors opening onto the garden or a separate bedroom and lounge will all attract a premium.

Is Care Good Value for Money?

Care is expensive, but try booking yourself into a local hotel for a week, eating three meals a day and using their laundry facilities.  No doubt the bill will be considerably more than a care home of a similar standard, and that’s before you include any care and assistance!

Help with Money

Once you know how much your care will cost you can use our calculator to get an idea of affordability.  We can help you with this to a greater degree of accuracy in our care fees planning service.

There are also products that can guarantee an income for your lifetime to meet your care costs.  We have full details of some of the available options and again our care fees planning service can provide individual help and guidance.
