Care homes come in all shapes and sizes from small family run homes to large corporately owned homes. Although they are all called ’care homes’ they frequently cater for very different needs. Some may be like living in a smart hotel whilst others may be more homely. Some are quiet whilst others have regular activities.

Have a think about what you want. Ask yourself what you enjoy and choose a home that caters.

For example, if you like gardening, can you have a room opening onto the garden and are you allowed to tend a patch of the garden yourself? Some homes have raised beds for this purpose.

Remember, this is going to be your home, not somewhere where you visit for a few hours or spend a couple of weeks on holiday.
